Title: Research project on performance evaluation of dynamic provisioning strategies for data intensive applications Speaker: Chaitan Baru, SDSC/Calit2 Abstract: We have just received funding from the NSF Cluster Exploratory (CluE) program for a 2-year project on the above topic. Our goal is to perform a careful performance evaluation of alternative strategies for managing large scientific data archives in very large cluster-based environments, including dynamic strategies. In particular, we propose to study the relative merits of DBMS-based implementations versus Hadoop-based implementations for access of large spatial databases. We are keen to get students interested in this project, and we are also looking for a grad student researcher to start work immediately on the project.
